Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas and Launch Shinkun La Tunnel Project

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will mark the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas by visiting the Kargil War Memorial at approximately 9:20 AM to pay tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil War. This visit is a tribute to the valor and dedication of the Indian Armed Forces in their successful operation against Pakistani troops in 1999.

Kargil Vijay Diwas is a significant day of remembrance, commemorating the heroism and sacrifice of soldiers who defended India’s sovereignty. Modi’s visit to the memorial highlights the nation’s ongoing respect and gratitude for their contributions to securing the country’s borders.

In addition to the commemoration, Prime Minister Modi will virtually initiate the Shinkun La Tunnel Project, a landmark infrastructure endeavor. The project features the construction of a 4.1 km long Twin-Tube tunnel at an altitude of about 15,800 feet on the Nimu – Padum – Darcha Road. Once completed, the Shinkun La Tunnel will hold the record as the highest tunnel in the world.

The Shinkun La Tunnel is designed to enhance connectivity to Leh by providing all-weather access through challenging terrain. The strategic advantages of the tunnel include improved logistical support for military operations and more efficient transport for civilians.

The project also aims to stimulate economic and social development in Ladakh. The enhanced connectivity will boost regional development, support tourism, and facilitate easier access to essential services for residents.

Prime Minister Modi’s participation in both the Kargil Vijay Diwas observance and the launch of the Shinkun La Tunnel Project underscores a commitment to both honoring the past and advancing future infrastructure. The dual focus of this day highlights the government’s dedication to preserving national heritage while investing in key developments for national progress.
