Prime Minister Narendra Modi and tech magnate Bill Gates shared their thoughts on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India and the world at large. The conversation also touched upon the topic of Deepfake technology.
PM Modi expressed his concerns about the potential misuse of AI. He said, “If we use AI as a magic tool, it will perhaps lead to a grave injustice. If AI is relied on out of laziness…then it is the wrong path.” He further added that he should have a competition with ChatGPT, a popular AI model, and strive to go ahead of AI, emphasizing the importance of human intelligence and effort over reliance on AI.
Bill Gates, on the other hand, acknowledged the potential of AI but also highlighted the challenges that come with it. “These are early days in AI…It will do things that you think are hard and then it will fail to something which you think is easy,” he said. Gates sees AI as a huge opportunity but also warns of the challenges that need to be addressed.
The discussion between the two leaders brings to light the dichotomy of AI – its immense potential and the inherent challenges. As AI continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how India and the world navigate its complexities.
