Indian Railways Unveils Major Expansion Plan for Rajasthan: New Lines, Doubling, and Facilities

Jaipur – Indian Railways has launched an extensive initiative to strengthen its network across Rajasthan, with a comprehensive plan that includes laying 862 kilometers of new rail lines and doubling 1,441 kilometers of existing tracks. This significant investment aims to enhance railway services, boost connectivity, and improve passenger amenities throughout the state.

New Rail Lines to Transform Connectivity

The project encompasses the construction of several key rail lines, which will greatly enhance connectivity in Rajasthan. New lines will be established connecting Khatushyamji to Salasar Sujangarh, Kotputli Dabla to New Dabla, and Ajmer’s Adarsh Nagar to Tonk via Chaksu and Bassi. Additionally, lines will link Anupgarh to Bikaner, Phalodi to Nagaur, Mandsaur Pratapgarh to Banswara, and Pilani to Loharu.

The initiative also includes the creation of the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC), covering Bikaner, Churu, Degana, Bangadgram, and Samdari Bypass, extending to the new Rewari station in the Alwar and Rewari section. Rail line doubling will be carried out on routes including Jaipur-Chomu-Samod, Jaipur Orbital Corridor, Narnaul-Phulera, Umra-Debari, Lalgarh-Jaisalmer, and Rai Ka Bag-Marwar Mathania. These upgrades are designed to enhance travel speed and ensure a smoother journey for passengers.

Enhanced Facilities with New Depots and Freight Terminals

To support the expanded network, Indian Railways has proposed new coach depots in key locations, including Khatiapura, Bhattok Ki Gali, and Umra in Jaipur, as well as Lalgarh in Bikaner. Additionally, freight terminals will be constructed in Hirnoda (Phulera), Dhankya, Baradhwal, and Nawalgarh. These facilities are expected to improve the efficiency of freight operations and increase overall network capacity.

Introduction of the Jaipur Orbital Rail Corridor

One of the standout features of the plan is the Jaipur Orbital Rail Corridor, a 70-kilometer ring railway designed to streamline traffic around Jaipur city. Modeled after a ring road, this corridor aims to enhance urban transit by reducing congestion and improving connectivity within the city.

Indian Railways’ ambitious expansion plan promises to be a game-changer for Rajasthan’s railway infrastructure. By significantly improving connectivity, operational efficiency, and passenger comfort, this initiative is set to drive economic growth and enhance travel experiences across the state.
