PM Modi Gifts Sacred Sangam Water and Makhana to Mauritius President and First Lady

Strengthening the cultural and historical ties between India and Mauritius, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented sacred Sangam water and Makhana to the President of Mauritius, Prithvirajsing Roopun, and First Lady, Sayukta Roopun. The gesture symbolized India’s deep-rooted connection with the island nation and its Indian diaspora.

The Sangam water, sourced from the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers in Prayagraj, holds immense spiritual significance in Indian culture. Makhana, a traditional Indian superfood widely cultivated in Bihar, is known for its nutritional and cultural value.

PM Modi’s offering was seen as a tribute to the shared heritage between India and Mauritius, where a large portion of the population traces its ancestry to India, particularly the Bhojpuri-speaking regions. The gift reinforced the long-standing diplomatic and cultural bonds that have flourished over generations.

During his visit, PM Modi also emphasized the enduring friendship between the two nations, highlighting India’s commitment to Mauritius’ development and the importance of cultural exchanges in strengthening bilateral ties. The visit continues to showcase India’s role as a key partner in Mauritius’ progress while celebrating their historical connections.
