Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a public rally held in North Malda, made a significant announcement that could potentially boost the income of local farmers. He acknowledged the global popularity of the mangoes and ‘makhana’ produced by the farmers of Malda and proposed the establishment of a food processing industry in the region.
“We say that the mangoes and ‘makhana’ produced by the farmers of Malda is world famous. The income of these farmers should increase, for which, we will set up a food processing industry,” said PM Modi, addressing the crowd.
The Prime Minister’s proposal aims to enhance the value chain of these agricultural products and increase the income of the farmers. The food processing industry could provide a platform for the farmers to sell their produce directly, eliminating the need for middlemen and ensuring fair prices for their produce.
However, the announcement was met with demands from the Trinamool Congress (TMC). “TMC demands their share in that also,” PM Modi added, without providing further details on the nature of these demands.
The proposal for the food processing industry and the subsequent demands from the TMC have set the stage for a new discourse in the region’s politics. As the farmers await more details on this initiative, the political dynamics in North Malda are expected to witness significant changes in the coming days.
