Prime Minister Modi Meets Chilean President Gabriel Boric to Strengthen Bilateral Ties During State Visit

New Delhi – Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font at Hyderabad House on Tuesday, marking the beginning of a significant five-day state visit by the Chilean leader to India. The two leaders held in-depth discussions aimed at enhancing bilateral relations and exploring new avenues of cooperation across various sectors, including economic, commercial, and societal domains.

During the talks, both leaders emphasized their shared commitment to strengthening the diplomatic and economic ties between India and Chile, identifying opportunities for greater collaboration in key areas such as agribusiness, innovation, and the creative industries. President Boric expressed optimism about the visit, highlighting its importance in diversifying and deepening the relationship between the two nations. He noted, “We are talking about the fifth-largest economy and the most populous country on the planet, with whom we share common ground and opportunities for growth.”

Later in the day, President Boric is scheduled to meet with President Droupadi Murmu, followed by a special banquet hosted in his honor. These engagements are expected to further cement the growing ties between India and Chile, showcasing the potential for multilateral cooperation in today’s global landscape.

Earlier in the day, President Boric and his delegation paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat, New Delhi, recognizing the profound legacy of the Indian leader. In a post on X, Boric shared, “Together with our delegation of ministers and parliamentarians, we paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Raj Ghat, the memorial erected in his honour in New Delhi. His legacy reminds us that with India, we not only share common interests and a future of great opportunities for our people, but also shared fundamental values.”

Upon arriving in New Delhi, President Boric was warmly received by Union Minister of State (MoS) Pabitra Margherita and was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the airport. The Chilean leader expressed his enthusiasm for the visit on X, stating, “6:30 a.m. in New Delhi, and from here we begin this State Visit to India, a momentous occasion for strengthening and diversifying our economic, political, and cultural relations at a time when multilateral cooperation is more necessary than ever.”

As the visit progresses, the two nations are expected to continue their dialogue on strengthening bilateral ties and fostering closer collaboration in key sectors that are vital for mutual growth and development.
